Internationaler Frauen*tag | International Women*s Day

Today, 8 March, is the International Women*s Day.

In 1910, the German socialist Clara Zetkin proposed an International Women’s Day for the first time at the Second International Socialist Women’s Conference. One year later, on 19 March 1911, the first International Women’s Day took place. Initially, the focus was on women’s suffrage, then on the rejection of war, and during the Nazi era, the celebration of Women’s Day became a symbol of socialist resistance against the prevailing inhumanity. Especially the past year, the treatment of occupational groups in which (still) predominantly women* work and the matter-of-factness with which especially mothers have to absorb the multiple burdens in the pandemic, gives all the more reason to fight for equality on this (and every other) day.
