What exactly is the welcome money?
EN below – Bei dem umgangssprachlich “Willkommensgeld” genannten Angebot der Stadt Siegen handelt es sich um einen Antrag auf die Rückerstattung des Mobilitätsbeitrages, also den Anteil des Semesterbeitrags, den das Semesterticket ausmacht (zurzeit 176,40€). Wer den Antrag innerhalb eines Jahres nach dem Umzug nach Siegen bei uns ausfüllt, kann einmalig diesen Betrag zurückerstattet bekommen.
Folgende Voraussetzungen müssen erfüllt sein:
- Umzug nach Siegen innerhalb der letzten 12 Monate (Erstmalig!)
- Anmeldung des Erstwohnsitzes im Rathaus der Stadt Siegen, dabei: Abholung der Meldebescheinigung
- Aktuelle Einschreibung an der Universität Siegen
Packt eure Meldebescheinigung und eure aktuelle Studienbescheinigung ein und schaut im AStA-Büro vorbei. Die Studienbescheinigung können wir auch vor Ort ausdrucken.
Im AStA-Büro können wir dann den Antrag am PC ausfüllen. Das Ganze dauert ca. 10 Minuten und ihr müsst eine aktuelle IBAN parat haben, um eure Kontonummer im Antrag eingeben zu können. Bitte beachtet: Der Antrag lässt sich nur über ein bestimmtes Tool auf dem PC im AStA-Büro ausfüllen. Online-Anträge sind nicht möglich, ihr müsst persönlich vorbeikommen.
Die eigentliche Bearbeitung der Anträge sowie die Auszahlung des Geldes liegt bei den Stadt Siegen. Wir nehmen die Anträge im AStA nur auf und leiten sie dann weiter. Daher haben wir leider wenig Einfluss auf die Dauer der Bearbeitung und auch wenig Einblick in einzelne Anträge. Aufgrund der hohen Nachfrage kann die Bearbeitungszeit schwanken, momentan liegen wir bei etwa 6 Monaten. Kurzum: Es dauert schon ne Ecke – dafür ist es geschenktes Geld.

The offer from the city of Siegen, colloquially known as ‘welcome money’, is an application for reimbursement of the mobility fee, i.e. the portion of the semester fee that the semester ticket accounts for (currently €176.40). Anyone who completes the application with us within one year of moving to Siegen can receive a one-off refund of this amount.
The following requirements must be met:
- Move to Siegen within the last 12 months (for the first time!)
- Register your primary residence at the town hall of Siegen, including: Pick up your registration certificate
- Current enrolment at the University of Siegen
Pack your registration certificate and your current certificate of enrolment and drop by the AStA office. We can also print out the certificate of enrolment on site.
We can then fill out the application on the PC in the AStA office. The whole process takes about 10 minutes and you must have a current IBAN ready so that you can enter your account number in the application. Please note: The application can only be completed using a specific tool on the PC in the AStA office. Online applications are not possible, you must come in person.
The actual processing of the applications and the payment of the money is the responsibility of the City of Siegen. We only receive the applications at the AStA and then pass them on. Unfortunately, we therefore have little influence on the processing time and little insight into individual applications. Due to the high demand, the processing time can fluctuate, at the moment we are at around 6 months. In short: it does take a while – but it’s free money.
