Der Allgemeine Studierendenausschuss (AStA) wird vom StuPa gewählt und ist das ausführende Gremium der Studierendenschaft. Er vertritt dabei die Belange der Studierendenschaft nach innen (z.B. gegenüber Senat und Rektorat) und außen (z.B. Medien, Presse und Öffentlichkeit). Außerdem organisiert und betreibt der AStA noch den AStA-Shop und die Sozialberatung. Bleibt man bei dem Vergleich mit dem System der BRD wäre der AStA quasi die Regierung, die AStA-Referent*innenen (z.Z. sind es 14 Stellen) die Minister*innen, jede*r mit einem speziellen Zuständigkeitsbereich. Viel Verantwortung, noch viel mehr Arbeit. Für gewöhnlich ist ein Studium neben der AStA-Tätigkeit nicht mehr möglich, daher sind die AStA-Referent*innen die einzigen (!) in der ganzen Struktur, die für ihre Arbeit Geld bekommen, orientiert am BAföG-Satz.
The General Student Committee (AStA) is elected by the StuPa and is the executive body of the student body. It represents the interests of the student body internally (e.g. vis-à-vis the Senate and Rectorate) and externally (e.g. media, press and public). The AStA also organises and runs the AStA shop and the social counselling service. If you compare it to the system in the FRG, the AStA would be the government, so to speak, and the AStA advisors (currently there are 14 positions) would be the ministers, each with a special area of responsibility. A lot of responsibility, a lot more work. It is usually no longer possible to study while working for the AStA, so the AStA officers are the only ones (!) in the whole structure who get paid for their work, based on the BAföG rate.
